Super Cup

Screen Sport

Format - The 6 English clubs who were unable to play in European competition due to the ban imposed by UEFA were divided into two groups, with the winners and runners-up of each group qualifying for two-legged semi-finals. The Final (an all-Merseyside affair) had to be held over to the following season.

The competition was sponsored by the Cable TV company Screen Sport, so the official name was the "Screen Sport Super Cup".
