The Football League Full Members' Cup was a short lived competition for clubs from the top two divisions of the Football League. Introduced after the ban on English clubs from Europe, it never gathered support from either the leading clubs or fans, and in the end it was a suprise that it lasted as long as seven seasons.
Effectively, two parallel competitions (North and South) were run, with the two regional winners meeting in a national final.
Possibly the most noteworthy event in this cup's history was the inability of Reading to defend the title after their win in 1988, when they were also relegated to Division Three.
